5 out of 5 stars Read book + Follow book= Become very lucky!   September 16, 2006
 10 out of 13 found this review helpful

A very important book everyone MUST read. Great advice and great evidence to back it up. Whether you are a lucky or unlucky person now, you will become very lucky if you follow his advice. I thought the research on superstitions was brilliant. I have always been lucky and have always laughed at superstitions like black cats, ladders and broken mirrors but now I have the research up back up my intuitive /common sense beliefs. Only those with a negative and skeptical closed mind will not find benefit from this book. Everyone else will love it! The experiments like the cafe and the lucky and unlucky stories are worth the cost of the book alone. You cannot fault the findings and the tips. However I actually believe that positive visualisation is even more powerful than science can prove yet, but it will one day.

Do not risk missing out on improving your life. Look up the luck factor website for the 4 main tips. Advice so good I included it within my own book 'Winning Mentality'. Richard Wisemans Four tips for being lucky;
Maximise chance opportunities
Listen to your intuition
Be Positive
Put bad experiences into perspective (Be Positive)

The reason I bought the book was because the advice was not stuff I knew already or just common sense. For example;
"We are traditionally taught to be really focused, to be really driven, to try really hard at tasks. But in the real world, you've got opportunities all around you. And if you're driven in one direction, you're not going to spot the others. Unlucky people, if they go to a party wanting to meet the love of their life, end up not meeting people who might become close friends or people who might help them in their careers. Being relaxed and open allows lucky people to see what's around them and to maximise what's around them." -Prof Richard Wiseman

Get the book and read all 14 tips! Get lucky like me!

5 out of 5 stars I was one of the students on the Richard & Judy 'Luck Factor' trial   July 30, 2006

Hi everyone, I was on the R & J show when Richard first released his book, I was one of three students on a 3 week trial with Prof Wiseman, I found it totally fantastic and life changing, if you want to know more then one of my business (I started using Richards luck principles) has newspapers articles and links to articles about my total change of luck..... Look me up on independentauthors.co.uk
Prof Wiseman himself is still to this day a good freind and contact always there for any queries and motivation and also my progress since the show, so thanks to Richard and I hope you all just get on with the luck principles within the book and you WILL be surprised at what you can achieve....best part for me though is....I got the book free! and signed, betcha all jealous now ;O) Gary.

2 out of 5 stars Luck?!   June 10, 2006

This is actually a rather dishonest book, selling itself as science when really it is merely self-help. There is some interesting research hidden in here to be sure, but the basic premise is fundamentally flawed by confusing mere positive attitude (making the most of opportunities) with genuine random luck (chosing numbers that win the lottery). The great "revelations" contained are all therefore well trodden self-help themes.

This would be an honest book if it sold itself as maximising your opportunities, and as self-help no doubt it might be effective. But anyone expecting (justifiably) anything more from the title of the book will be disappointed. No doubt the dubious spin put on this theme has increased the luck - and bank balance - of Robert Wiseman though...

4 out of 5 stars Psychology, self help and the paranormal?   May 18, 2006

I love where Wiseman's coming from. He's a sceptic about the paranormal, and researches Indian God-men, ESP and luck rather than ignoring them. Yet he doesn't set out to debunk them, and works with an open mind and believing colleagues.

Now he's looking at luck - how do you investigate that? This book is a combination of his team's process in dealing with the matter, and their discoveries.

It focusses on their realisation (belief?) that luck can be manufactured by adopting character traits and habits. They back this up by experiments, observations and psychological theory. The idea of luck an an outside, almost paranormal force you're born with goes straight out of the window - although they're confident that it can do. I found it fun and revealing.

In presenting the information they aim to show you what you can do to change luck patterns, and to assess you propensity to be lucky and your luck history. I admit part of my apprecation of the book is for the audacity to attempt to break such a complex matter down into something you can assess in your bedroom, but hey! - it seems to have sufficient scientific rigour to have more meaning than a mere parlour game. There is something in it.

I think you take something away too, so there is a big self-improvement aspect. The main benefits of the book are this, and the entertainment/thought provoking aspects, whcih overall make it a good read, and something you want to return to.

5 out of 5 stars Life altering!   April 3, 2006

So most of us already know about the power of positive thought? If that were true, pessimists wouldn't exist and there would be no need for this book! Yes, it may seem an obvious and simplistic concept to those positive and lucky people out there, but this book is written for those of us who lack confidence and self esteem and are stuck in a 'life is poo' rut. We know that it's better to be an optimist, but aren't sure how to change the thought pattern of a lifetime.

'The Luck Factor' explains in simple terms exactly what you need to do to become a lucky person - and it really works. I now feel a bit silly for wallowing in negativity for all these years - and I can't help wondering how many 10 notes I've missed out on...
