Not quite as easy as some might suggestJuly 5, 2008 This is a small book covering a very big subject in a fair amount of detail. What it cuts out is the gentle learning curve and it gets straight down to business. That's great but makes the book initially quite intimidating, especially if you pick it up and start from the middle! Don't let it put you off though, stick the book next to the loo and read a few paragraphs each day - even repeating the same ones - until it all sinks in and it will significantly enhance your understanding.
Great BookDecember 16, 2007 An excellent book for those wanting a bit more in depth understanding of what chemical reactions go on in a marine fish tank. Some of it is quite complex and takes a bit of understanding to get your head around, but a lot of the information is well written and easily understood by anyone with a basic understanding of marine tank water chemistry. A great addition to your collection.
Brilliant BookNovember 15, 2007 Many thanks for a great and very informative read. Just what I was needing to start my Reef Aquarium.

This book is amazing value. Its a short chemistry lesson but not too complicated. If you know that Marine fish live in salt-water and what pH is you'll be fine. If you want to keep marine fish you will be in a much better position if you read and undertand this book before you buy. Plus it has the added bonus of a good number of high quality picutres and diagrams.
Great overview of marine aquarium chemistryFebruary 16, 2003 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
If you have some basic high school chemistry then that's about all you need to understand this book. It gives the basic principles of what's going on in your marine aquarium - covering, amongst other subjects, the nitrogen cycle, maintaining calcium levels, pH and alkalinity.
If you want to know a bit more about the 'whys' to help understand how to maintain the balance then this book is a great helper and excellent value.
