Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Lush comprehensive book to whet your appetite   February 5, 2008

464 pages of glossy photographs of coral anatomy, natural distribution, feeding, with about 300 pages devoted to the individual coral species themselves. I think that aptly sums up why you want to buy this reference book.

There are individual entries on captive care and the author is keen to point out how readily the coral will survive in captivity. He emphasises if there are any problems with the overharvesting of a particular wild species.

I'm just in the planning stage of a marine aquarium and this book is less useful for those wanting to take the first tentative steps towards actually trying coral husbandry. It's more for someone who has already dabbled and wants to know more. It would be very valuable in pointing out issues with individual species before you commit expensive folly at the fish shop.

5 out of 5 stars Very informative, a vital addition of reference.   June 1, 2006

If you are a true Aquarium Reef keeper like myself, well simply put, you will not be dissapointed with this book. Highly detailed info on corals (with exceptional pictures), living requirements, advice, selection and background of original enviroment particulary helpful.

Quickly improves your ability in identifying correct corals for both your own ability and aquarium setup.

Very, very good book. Quite popular too. Much cheaper from Amazon than your local aquarium store for sure!

5 out of 5 stars An excellent up to date manual of coral husbandry.   November 21, 2001

This book is the most up to date manual of coral husbandry I have yet come across. It provides in one volume a valuable guide to a wide range of commonly available corals, saving hours of browsing time on the web (where the best sources on reef keeping are often to be found ).
If you are seriously into reefkeeping I recommend you buy this book , there is so much useful information here that it is hard to review it adequately, perhaps the best thing to say is if I could only have one book on the subject this is it!
