Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fish and Seashore pocket guides from Collins.   July 20, 2006
The 'Fish of Britain and Europe', together with it's companion guide the 'Seashore of Britain and Europe', are used more than any other reference books here at the Purbeck Marine Conservation Centre at Kimmeridge in Dorset. They are easily understood, but with sufficient detail for all but the the most advanced student and make the identification of species so much easier for us 'less than brilliant' voluteer marine wardens.

4 out of 5 stars Very Much Worth Getting   July 2, 2004

I have used this book countless times, and it still lives up to my expectations as the best book possible for identifying the fish of Europe. That said, it still leaves some to be desired. Despite its very convenient size, it becomes worn very quickly even with the most meticulous care. The pictures in general are very good, but sometimes the colors are off a little. That said, its very much worth your money, the best guide to European fish I have ever seen.

4 out of 5 stars Good for most purposes   January 23, 2001

The Collins guides are pretty much current standard for id purposes, and this is up to their usual high standards. The only real flaws with these books is that the drawings sometimes owe rather more to the imagination of the artist than is desirable (particularly with regard to colouration) - photos of living specimens would be preferable; and you need to have a reasonable idea of the type of fish before you can start working out precisely what it is. With those qualifications, there aren't really any other id books out there with the species range of the Collins guides.

4 out of 5 stars An excellant book, it makes an ideal gift for fish lovers.   September 8, 2000

This book is a great reference book, covering just about every fish found in Europe. It is a handy size, so you can take it with you when you are out in the field, or when you visist a sea life centre etc.

The pictures are clear and colourful, and the text is very easy to read. If you have a friend who is interested in fish, buy them this book! Or treat yourself!
