Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Is it your job to develop applications in the office, or would you like it to be? Either way, you are going to need Microsoft Office 2000 Visual Basic Programmer's Guide. In one package, you get information on understanding your users' needs, where to start designing your Office-based solutions, coding, debugging, add-ons, data, security, and all the new features of the Office 2000 suite.

Sound like a lot? It is, and it's not for beginners. The authors assume a working knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications and HTML, as well as a familiarity with SQL. If you're not quite there yet, try a different book and come back when you're ready because it's well worth it. The authors guide you along each step of the way--from defining problems to putting the final touches on your solutions--with clear, straightforward text, plenty of hands-on coding examples and ideas for further learning.

The enclosed CD-ROM contains all the code from the book, as well as white papers and sample applications. Office 2000 is the most integrated suite yet, and VBA is better than ever for making your applications shine. Your hard work, plus Microsoft Office 2000 Visual Basic Programmer's Guide, will make you indispensable in the workplace. --Rob Lightner

5 out of 5 stars Awesome resource for Office developers!   June 17, 1999

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this new edition of the Office Programmer's Guide is much better than the 1997 version. Here the authors have provided a nearly end-to-end discussion about how to create custom Microsoft Office solutions. This is not a book for beginners looking for information on the basics. Instead, this is a book created by developers, for developers. The book covers everything you need to know from how to design an Office solutions to how to create it to how to deploy it to users. It covers the new features in each of the Office applications, but also provides a ton of great information on how to work with features that have been around for awhile. Another pleasant surprise was the sample code and sample applications that come with the book. This book is packed with example after example that not only illustrate the concepts discussed, but that look to me like they were designed as re-usable chunks of code that you can cut and paste into your own programs with little or no modification. This has already proved to be a huge timesaver for me.

I can't recommend this book highly enough. If you are doing any work to customize any of the Office applications or creating your own full-blown Office solutions, having this book is like having your own Office programming expert at your side as you work.
