Good but not for the complete noviceSeptember 30, 2003 38 out of 38 found this review helpful
All round this is a good book if you want to build your own deck. It goes through the basics about planning the deck, the tools necessary and goes through 5 projects. However, a lot of the stages in each of the projects are repeated, leaving little time to expound on the key stages for each individual project. For example, virtually all the projects assumed a flat surface to start with - it would have been very useful to have a whole chapter about levelling the ground or fixing post and finding levels from that. However, many concepts are well explained and nicely captured in pictures. Reccommended for someone with decent diy skills and a basic project - anything else and you'll need to look further afield.

I bought this book as we had planned on doing some decking as a surprise for my mum while she went away. This book was great for my partner as he had done decking once before and just needed general assistance, but for someone like me, it left me still asking lots of questions!! Excellent book if you have a handy man!!

A very good book to set you in the right direction and give you ideas of what is possible in your own back garden. Being a Beachcomber hot tub supplier , I will be using this book in my promotions . Thanks ...
