Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A "must have" for all salmon fishers.   May 25, 2006
Authoritative text full of truly useful information on the salmon and salmon fishing. Superbly illustrated by Rod Sutterby. Illustrations vary from the detailed, anatomically accurate through to wonderfully evocative more impressionistic paintings of 'salmon by moonlight' and 'salmon on the redds'. Marvellous book.

Most books on salmon fall into one of two categories. How to catch them, or rather dry scientific descriptions of their life cycle. Malcolm Greenhalgh is well known to game anglers, but his description here of the salmon's extraordinary return journey from stream to sea is very concise and readable with new scientific research included in a far from dry style. The words are complemented on every page with wonderfully detailed paintings by Rod Sutterby. He must be Britain's foremost painter and illustrator of our country's game fish. This book should appeal to naturalists, anglers and anyone with an interest in these remarkable fish. Buy it.
