Did what is said on the coverJanuary 6, 2009 My little Blenheim was chosen for me by my mother after the death of my previous Blenheim. Within a few weeks she was diagnosed with cancer and died a few months later. Hugo like George has kept me sane and has kept laughter in the house. Yes George did take over and became a channel for love, just like my little fella has. Good on you George, thank you for keeping up the traditions of the CKC Spaniels and well done Judith for writing a no-nonsense book with the ups and downs of life with a perfect companion. Fantastic read!
A biopgraphy of a King Charles Cavalier SpanielJanuary 6, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this book absolutely delightful and it clearly is a biography of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. My parents own a Blenheim called 'Murphy' and my sister had a Blenheim called 'Mr Chips and she now has a Blenheim puppy called 'Hugo Boss' and the book could have most certainly been entitled 'My Life with Murphy' or 'My Life with Chips' and even ' My Life with Hugo-Boss' - it is Cavalier King Charles to a 'T' - they are born to rule!
A book I thoroughly enjoyed reading and highly recommended!! I feel a copy should be available to all prospective buyers of King Charles Spaniels - just so that you know what you will be letting yourself in for!!
Highly not recommended bookDecember 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
As said another reviewer, this is really a sad book about the author. Some of her failed relationship even badly treated dogs. No wonder George is so sad in the book cover. Please do not buy this book! I do not normally review books but this book is really an insult to any King Charles owner.
The very best of booksOctober 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I picked up this book really after spotting the cute dog, I dont usually read factual books and I dont have a dog, but the book captured me from the first page. I even carried on reading it in the early hours as I tried to get my one year old son back to sleep. fabulous book, am so sad Ive finished it.
a deeply honest, entertaining and deeply touching memoirOctober 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a touching and funny account of a family tragedy - with all the stoicism and self-deprecating humour one would expect from a witty and sophisticated English author, who had to face life after her beloved companion died suddenly of cancer. it was her onerous responsibility to bring some light into the house once again, and her sole concern was for her sensitive, only son, who at such a tender age had to witness the illness and death of his father. what follows is a brave romp through trials and misfortune, and ultimately, happiness, and a reconciliation with the thunderbolts life brings. the little King Charles Spaniel, George, is the little fluffy and mischievous hero who brings fun and joy back into a family grieving for their beloved Udi. Highly recommended. With illustrations by the cartoonist Marf.
