I recieved this book a month ago, and am still working my way through it.

It is a great book, contains history of the dog, dogs in the media and film. The middle section contains a large section of breeds of dogs, which is very informative. There is a small section at the end on caring for your dog.

Overall this book is great for the coffee table for dog lovers, and is useful for choosing and caring for your own dog.

Would recommend this book.

I first purchased this book for a friend as a gift & they loved it. Since then-I have gifted several copies to friends & family ages 9-79.
Beautiful & informative pictures & text make this the best dog breed book I've come across.

I received my 'New Encyclopedia of the Dog' book yesterday, and so far, I have not been able to put it down! Its very informative and has several excellent shots of each breed in there. It even includes new breeds such as the 'Cockerpoo' and the 'Labradoodle'.

This book is very informative and is perfect if you're undecided about which one is your perfect pooch!

Definately a must have if you're even a smidgen of a dog lover!

We have kept a number of dog encycolpedias over the years, as well as a variety of breed specific titles, training or grooming guides. Looking for a new title on Amazon is a little frustrating, you cant flick through the pictures or browse the text to compare one option with another, it therefore was with a little pot luck we selected this title from the half a dozen or so choices.

This is large book covering the main KC breeds, but also a number of less common breeds from around the globe, and a small selection of known crosses; some 400 in total. With the exception of a number of very rare species or extinct breeds, this book is very comprehensive and offers the family a chance to review less traditional dogs before choosing a pet.

Breed information is limited to a half a page to two pages per breed, but include the key referance points you would need, size, temprement, common names, colouring, coat type etc. and a brief breed history. There are also at least 3 colour photographs of of each breed, all of good quality and apear to have been taken specifically for this title.

Its a very "coffee table friendly book", large sized atractivly presented, full of beautiful photographs and clear text.

The chapters break up sensibly with division into the main dog groups, but also placing the various breeds in a sensible (read none alphabetical) order, so that for example the 5 different types of American "Coon Hound" are in serise, or the various Mastif/large breeds all togeather for easier comparison. An index at the back is thankfully detailed and in traditional alphabetical order for quick referance.

There are general chapters on dog history, health, training and care, again well presented.

Overall this title was superior to the previous dog encycolpedias we have had in all aspects, an excellent referance guide, a good starting point for owners seeking a new breed, and also a nice item to just have around just to flick through.
