This book is awful!December 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm a dog lover, a rescue lurcher owner and have a saluki cross, which is why I hate this book! The story unfolds as the owner progresses on a steep learning curve as to how to adapt to owning both a rescue dog which is also a saluki lurcher. Sadly, the owner shows nothing but ineptitude throughout the book and puts his dog at risk through misguided obsession as to its beauty whilst running free. I won't argue that a dog should be able to run but not at the risk of its life! I was also disappointed to find he isn't just an ordinary dog owner but a professional writer also, something which I find hard to believe as most of my (not very bright) secondary pupils can write with more accuracy and charm than this individual. He then concludes the book with his intent to own a pure Saluki having never even suceeded with dealing with the issues of his current hound...cue a second book! And sure as dammit he releases one. I rather generously alluded to the writer's learning curve at the start of this review, unfortunately he didn't learn a darned thing as he progressed on his 'adventures' with Ollie. Needless to say I won't be buying the sequel and if I was a breeder having read his book, I wouldn't sell him a dog either. (P.S. I tried to give this book away free on several dog internet sites that I use that know the breeds involved - NOBODY was interested...says it all really)
Incredible read!December 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the best animal book I have read, funny and moving. Any animal owner or lover will enjoy this tremendously, you'll definitely relate to all the hilarious and emotional tales of Ollie's eventful time!! A fantastic read - I would recommend Walking Ollie to anybody.

I got about half way through this book. In that time I think I learned more about the author's love of sport than Ollie. Although I hope Ollie had a good life, I wasn't prepared to waste my time reading the rest of the book to find out, because there really wasn't that much in it about the dog.
ExcellentDecember 1, 2008 Walking Ollie is very touching and tender and a great read too. a must buy for all dog lovers and very funny as well.
