3 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me   November 6, 2008

Think this would be a good method for a young or more biddable breed however I have a 9 year old determined and very clever staffie and it didn't work for him. Yes after he's had a good run for 20 minutes he'll walk beautifully but he did that anyway. The point for me was not to be hauled to the park in the first place and my dog hasn't given that up. (Yes he is walked every day - just in case anyone wonders if lack of exercise is why he pulls.) I have always found that be will walk perfectly on the pavement if I don't put a lead on him - but can't be trusted not to run off after a cat. My dog understands at least 25 verbal commands and will perform all sorts of tricks when asked at home. In the park he'll pick and choose when he will listen.

5 out of 5 stars fantastic!! If you have tried everything else give this a go, it worked for me!   September 15, 2008

My dog was a seasoned puller, at only 17kg he could pull me over if i wasn't paying attention, and he was very exciteable. He would pull and lunge towards other dogs and people (not aggressively, that's another subject). Using this book as a guide, I went back to basics and started from scratch, withing 4-6months we have stopped most of the pulling, he no longer lunges, and will only pull on the short walk from house to field, if I turn in another direction he walks perfectly to heel. We are even making progress on the short field walk, and most days he only pulls for the 1st 5 meters, then understands that i won't allow it. The method is kind and friendly with no nasty squirts of water, shocks, sprays, or aggressive checking that are recommended in other training manuals. Definately worth getting, and if these methods are used from puppyhood, there should not be any pulling at all.

5 out of 5 stars Simple & effective   August 17, 2008

So simple, yet so effective, it's almost too good to be true. But believe it, it does work! No fancy theories, no technical jargon, just a clearly reasoned method to help your you and your dog work easily together.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use for all   November 24, 2006

Another good book from this author. This is easy for the beginner and also for the professional dog trainer. Short, simple and explained really well it sets out not only what to do with a dog that pulls, but also explains the reason why it's pulling in the first place. There are also lots of nice photos to illustrate along the way.

Easy to digest problem solving book for all levels of doggy experience. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Get the book, get a dog walking with a loose lead!   March 14, 2006

I have a pet labrador. I don't want an obedience champ. She doesn't have to walk to 'heel' like she is at Crufts and she can't stop to sniff the lamppost mail and enjoy going out. All I want is a dog I can walk on a loose leash who makes walking a pleasure not a war of wills. If that's all you ask from your dog then this book is for you, no 'heel' work that the dog doesn't get, just a simple method that works!!
Within three days of adopting the methods in the book, my Lab is walking with a loose lead 80% of the time! Three days ago she was a nightmare to walk! Every day she is improving and even ignoring other dogs even if they are badly behaved! The methods are simple and pain free for both of you! All you need is an oridinary dog harness and a leash! No 'special' (often painful) harness or head collars needed. Get the book and get that dog walking!
