This is the empathetic, compassionate and passionate diary of a woman thrown in at the deep end, Her husband, a marine biologist, wanted to study sharks close by, have his own facility, Buisinessman he was, enter an aquarium and also dolphins to entertain the crowds and pay for his research ambitions. He left his wife in charge of the latter. -The rest is history.
Dolphin trainers worldwide regard this book as their bible. Karen Pryor went on to learn about animal training from B.F Skinner (yes, THE Skinner) and translated her empathy and caring attitude into a way of of practically communicating with these beautiful creatures. Her work provided the foundation for what is now the highly respected dophin research centre in Hawaii, but the book never brags, never deviates from the charming, involving rollercoaster of a tale about being in charge of the barely controlled chaos of a sea life park and her ("childish", a term she uses herself somewhere in the book) delight at the beauty of her favourite animals.
