Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Another excellent book from Jean.   October 23, 2008

This is a series of short very well written essays covering a variety of topics. Once again, Jean has written a fantastic book which is valuble to everyone who has any interest in dogs.
I should point out that this is not a training manual, this is for people who would like some more information on the essential topics relating to dogs. Such as, wolf behaviour patterns and how they relate to our dogs. The dominance theory, research around the area, and how it really is a load of rubbish! Then you have training based information such as Pavlov, and how what he found relates to how your dog thinks and can be trained, to shaping and the clicker training purists. It finishes with the 6th section on genetics and evolution, and how that affects which breed is suitable for us and what we want from our dog, theories of how dogs became domesticated, and how important it is for the breeder to get it right.
