Brilliant for beginners December 23, 2008 I own a sheepdog puppy and I was determined to use his high energy and stamina to good use. This book is very good for beginners and quite straightforward to follow. It is more American market orientated but most of it still applies.
It is brilliant to explain some of the jargon and also how to go about training your dog for different exercises. I think some of the techniques work better for some dogs than others but you will know when you read through them. Another brilliant feature is where it is giving you instructions on how to make your own obstacles.
The language is clear, concise and easy to follow. As an agility beginner, I would most definitely recommend it.
Definitely for beginners.. January 11, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this book after attending a puppy agility class with my dog and loving it so much I wanted to get into the sport.
The book goes over the history of the sport, current competitions, (it is American Kennel Club orientated), the obstacles themselves and the techniques. However, it feels as though each topic is just glossed over and it left me wanting to know more. It describes the very basic techniques- a lot of it is basic obedience skills quite well but left me wanting on actual agility skills.
However, this is a good introduction overall and not so expensive that I felt ripped off. I just had to go out and buy more books when I had finished to deepen my knowledge!
Excellent book for beginners. June 5, 2007 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
This is a great book if you are a beginner with Dog Agility. Its full colour throughout with easily readable and well poresented text. There are hundreds of photos to accompany the text too. It goes through every aspect of the 'sport' from rules to training techniques to making your own home or garden equipment. The author is clearly an expert and reminds the reader that this activity is, and should remain, fun for the 'team' (dog and owner). Gives you all the advice you need to get started.
